General User Program:

Information for Prospective Applicants

The Industrial Macromolecular Crystallography Association Colloborative Access Team (IMCA-CAT) operates facilities for macromolecular crystallography at sector 17 of the Advanced Photon Source. The IMCA-CAT General User Program is operational as of 1 October 2000, and the CAT invites macromolecular crystallographers to apply for beamtime now. IMCA-CAT is now participating in the APS's General User Proposal system, so we encourage you to apply for beamtime directly through the APS's system at http://www.aps.anl.gov/Users/General_Reference/Database_Systems/index.html. IMCA-CAT is, however, operating its own General User review system, so once we have received your proposal through the APS's proposal system, the CAT's own review procedures will be followed.

Timetables: IMCA-CAT accepts applications to its General User Program on a rolling basis. Proposals for any particular APS run will need to be in the hands of the CAT by the middle of the previous APS run; accordingly, the deadline for APS run 2009-3 must be in the hands of the CAT by the middle of run 2009-2, i.e. by 10 July 2009.

The Experimental Safety Approval Form or Forms associated with the proposal need not be submitted with the initial proposal to the APS's system, but must be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the awarded beamtime date.

In order to obtain beam time at IMCA-CAT, General Users will be required to sign the following statement:
On behalf of all involved in this General User project, I affirm that the results of these experiments will be released to the scientific community at large at the time of publication and will not be withheld to provide special benefit to any group (academic, industrial, or otherwise), or to generate financial reward to some or all of us in return for privileged access.

For further information please contact the CAT Director by electronic mail.
